Denoising click-evoked otoacoustic emission signals by optimal shrinkage

چکیده

Click-evoked otoacoustic emissions (CEOAEs) are clinically used as an objective way to infer whether cochlear functions normal. However, because the sound pressure level of CEOAEs is typically much lower than background noise, it usually takes hundreds, if not thousands repetitions estimate signal with sufficient accuracy. In this paper, we propose improve signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) CEOAE signals within limited measurement time by optimal shrinkage (OS) in two different settings: covariance-based OS (cOS) and singular value decomposition (SVD)-based (sOS). By simulation analyzing human data, cOS consistently reduced noise enhanced SNR 1 2 dB from a baseline method (BM) that based on calculating median. The sOS achieved enhancement 3 simulation, demonstrated capability enhance real recordings when BM was below 0 dB. An appealing property produces every individual column matrix. This makes possible investigate dynamics across longer period conditions strictly stationary.

Effect of Different Click Durations on Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emission

Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs) are sounds which emerge from ear canal when (paradoxically) tympanic membrane receives vibrations from cochlea transmitted by middle ear. The present study was taken up as the literature review shows that the effect of different click durations on the presence of Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emission (TEOAE) has not been studied. The present study involved 15 subjec...

hearing status in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia by auditory brain stem evoked response and transient evoked otoacoustic emission

hyperbilirubinemia at neonatal period is one of the major deteriorating factors of the auditory system. if left untreated, it may cause certain cerebral damage. this study aims to evaluate the impact of hyperbilirubinemia on the hearing of neonate. this study was conducted on 35 newborn babies with jaundice (bilirubin more than 20 mg/dl). auditory brainstem response (abr) and transient evoked o...

Evaluation of Distortion and Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emission in Tinnitus Patients with Normal Hearing

Introduction: Tinnitus is a perception of sound without external source. The exact etiology of tinnitus is not fully understood, although some researchers believe that the condition usually starts in the cochlea. The aim of this study was to determine the potential contribution of outer hair cell dysfunction to chronic tinnitus, by application of Distortion-Product Evoked Otoacoustic Emission (...

Click-evoked otoacoustic emissions recorded from untreated congenital hypothyroid newborns.

Thyroid hormone plays an important role in hearing development. Both a genetic or non-genetic hypothyroidism is often associated with congenital hearing loss. The exact incidence of hearing impairment in untreated congenital hypothyroid (CH) patients is unknown. This paper will present the results of measuring of the transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) in a population of 29 newborns,...
